NASENI Inaugurates Technology Centre

The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure on Tuesday inaugurated its technology orientation centre, which was built at a cost of N354,346,921.

It will serve as a resource centre for the promotion of science, technology and innovation development in the country.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, said the centre would help entrepreneurs, researchers and innovators to gain greater access to the processes required for commercialisation of local inventions.

“This will create jobs, create wealth, reduce poverty and stimulate growth in the economy. This will enable us to develop the skilled human resources that will stimulate research development as well as drive the new National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap (2017-2030) necessary to help diversify the Nigerian economy for sustainable growth,” the minister stated.

The Executive Vice Chairman, NASENI, Prof. Mohammad Haruna, said the centre was dedicated to providing budding entrepreneurs, academics, researchers and investors with the enabling environment for interaction, design, application and exhibition of advanced manufacturing technologies with their accompanying products and services.

“The TOC is a national resource to serve as a hub for gathering, displaying and assessing the brightest of minds, innovations and products specifically from new and emerging technologies; determine their relevance to the economy and design path to adopt, and infuse them into the economy,” Haruna stated.

According to the NASENI boss, the agency will put in place a programme for periodic assembly of Nigerians both at home and in the Diaspora who are interested in the subject to determine the desirability and applicability of new and emerging technologies, and to develop prototype products and services.
